Buxa Tiger reserve has once well known for dolomite mining, before it was declared as a National park in 1992. It has also received the title of being a tiger reserve in 1983. The park is located along the borders of Assam and Bhutan and is spread over an area of 745 sq km. It is the largest forest in the entire North Bengal with a huge population of tigers, just falling short in numbers to Sunderbans. There are many other animals that you can spot in the jungles of Buxa such as Indian bison, elephants, hynas, leopards and many more reptiles and mammals.

The Buxa Tiger Reserve is home to a host of endangered avifauna and offers exciting treks. The Buxa Tiger Reserve houses the largest forest cover in North Bengal.

Buxa Tiger Reserve Forests created in 1983 comprises entire forest area of previous Buxa Tiger Division and some territory of Coochbehar Forest Division. It covered the forest area of Rajabhatkhawa, Nimati, Barobisha, Rydak, Raimatang Jainti, Buxaduar and Bhutanghat. The main rivers are Sankosh, Raidak, Jayanti, Churnia, Turturi, Phashkhawa, Dima and Nonani. In 1986, some part of Buxa Tiger Reserve becomes Buxa Wildlife Sanctuary. In 1992 it was declared as National Park.

Apart from jungle safaris, the Buxa Tiger Reserve offers you countless enchanting trekking options. The most popular is the Santrabari-Buxaduar trek, all of five kilometers through thickly- forested hill tracts. You can also take 12km long trek to Rupam Valley in Bhutan through a route that’s much more beautiful than words can describe.

However, another must trekking option on your trip to Buxa is the trek from Buxaduar to Jayanti. This 13-km route takes you through some of the most mysterious as well as the densest parts of the reserve and the eventful trek ended with the warm embrace of an old priest at the unparalleled stalactite cave called Jayanti. The music of wilderness, the chirping of unknown birds, the song of wild streams, the fragrance of nature will never allow you to feel the least stress of a long journey.

The journey ends with a warm reception of an old staggering priest at the stalactite cave of jayanti, popularly known as the Mahakal cave. It is difficult to enter into the narrow, dark, damp cave but trying the same may be another precious adventure.

Excited to go there. Contact us now we will arrange a to z for your trek.
