Neora Valley National Park is a pristine & virgin forest of North Bengal. It is situated in Darjeeling district at Kalimpong subdivision. The national park is spread over 89 sq.km. & is one of the richest biosphere reserve in North East India. Dam Dim falls under Malbazar subdivision in Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal, India. It is famous for tea gardens and moist deciduous forests. This Place is in the border of the Jalpaiguri District and Darjeeling District. Darjeeling District Gorubathan is North towards this place. Dam Dim this is a place in the lap of Dooars, situated about 50 kms from Siliguri and about 6kms from Malbazar.

Dam Dim is famous for tea gardens, landscapes and moist deciduous forests. Travelers can enjoy riot of colours. The many hues of the autumn bloom stood out perfectly against the background of rain washed green of the tea plants.

Tourist Attractions at Dam Dim:

 Travelers can still enjoy the rich colonial culture in the Tea Gardens of Dam Dim.

The 150 year old heritage Tea Gardeen Bunglo named as “burra sahib bunglow ” is another attraction here. This place was happens to be the residence of the manager of Dam Dim Tea Estate. Now the burra sahibs are gone but efforts are underway to restore the bungalows to their past glory and give the well-heeled traveler a taste of the planter’s lifestyle.

The other attraction of Dam Dim is the Western Dooars Club once the hub of the planter’s social life. Its great institution features a teak dance floor, a billiards room, a lavish kitchen, a bar and of course sprawled alongside it, an 18-hole golf club.  The burra sahibs and the mem sahibs have left and along with them have gone the glitz and glamour of the lavish balls and the stylish do’s. The inside is dark and dreary and the curtains over the French windows are heavy with dust and spiders. The seemingly endless golf course is deserted and overgrown and watched over by the faint outline of the mountains, visible through the mist like a distant memory.

 At Dam Dim, there are lush flowering gardens to stroll, benches among the bushes, a garden swing for two, winding walking paths, a covered gazebo, and even a tree house that offers a glorious bird’s eye view of the tea fields that stretch out for miles. In and around the town there are many enchanting spots, noteworthy among them are Dam Dim Tea Estate, Gorubathan, Gorumara National Park, Bindu, Murti, Samsing and Lataguri.

 By Road:

 National Highway No.31 between Siliguri and Guwahati passes over Damdim.

By Rail:

Dam Dim Rail Way Station, Oodlabari Rail Way Station are the very nearby railway stations to Damdim. How ever New Jalpaiguri Rail Way Station is major railway station 33 KM near to Damdim

By Air:

Airport close to the town is Civil Enclave Bagdogra.

Rongo Perched on the top of a hill at an altitude of 4500 ft near the Bhutan boarder, Rongo or Rongu serve as the Headquarter of Cinchona Plantation under Kalimpong subdivision. Now Cinchona plantation is gradually giving way to rubber plantation. A tiny remote village having a market, post office and few houses in its locality, Rongo used to be a significant place for plantation and growing medicinal plants. Rongo offers fine-looking views of adjoining hills, dense forests and river valley of Jaldhaka.

Rongu does not feature as one of the most famous tourist destinations of North Bengal. But the natural beauty of this hill beauty and the hospitality of the local people draws many a travel enthusiasts to this less known hill station.

The population of Rongu is about 500 people. Most people are Buddhist and speak Nepali. The population is mostly dependent on cinchona plantation for livelihood.

The destination offers bird’s eye view of a vast plain of Dooars with tea gardens and forests.One of the popular trek in the Neora Valley Park begins from Mouchuki to Rechela – uppermost point of the Park. The most daring trek in North Bengal takes at least three days to Rechela through Bhotegarh and Thusum covering the dense forest and end up in Pedong or Lava.

Neora Valley National Park:

 Neora Valley National Park is situated in the Kalimpong subdivision under Darjeeling District, West Bengal, India and was established in 1986. It spreads over an area of 88 km and is one of the richest biological zones in the entire Northeast.

Neora Valley, one of the least tracts of virgin wilderness in the country sustains a unique eco-system where tropical, sub-tropical, sub-temperate, and temperate vegetative system still harbours a wealth of flora and fauna. The forests consists of mixed species like rhododendron, bamboo, oak, ferns, sal etc. The Valley also has numerous species of orchids.

River Valley of Jaldhaka:

The river valley at Jaldhaka is situated at about 1500 ft above sea level on the shores of the Jaldhaka River that happens to be one of the major attractions of this valley. People visit this place for its natural beauty that offers ample opportunities for travellers to go for fishing and riverside picnic. The Jaldhaka River Valley is situated in the sub-division of Kalimpong in West Bengal and is also known for its hydroelectric power project located at a distance of 5 km from the centralised bazaar.

How to Reach Rongo:

 One can reach from Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station viar Siliguri along national highway 31 i.e. Dooars crossing Chalsa and turning left at Khunia More via Chapramari, Sepchu, Gairibas. From Gairibas an uneven motorable road turns towards left to Rongo nearly 7 kilometers to Rongo.

Pelling is a town in the district of West Sikkim, India. Magnificent views of the snow-capped Kanchenjunga range, the third highest peak in the world. Rabdentse Ruins: This was the second capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Sikkim after Yuksom and till the year 1814 A.D., the king of Sikkim ruled the state from this place. The scenic view from the top of the ruin scanning across deep valley to the mystic heights of Kangchenjunga ranges is something to be cherished and etched in memory.

Airport: The nearest airport from Pelling is Bagdogra Airport.

 

Rail: The trains generally come into either New Jalpaiguri or Siliguri. From there, visitors may proceed to Pelling by “Toy-Train” or bus or taxi, Limo Van or Land Rover to Pelling.

 

Road: Pelling is connected with all weather metaled road with Siliguri, Kalimpong, Gangtok etc.

Chapramari Sanctuary: Chapramari Wildlife Reserve is close to the Gorumara National Park. Chapramari is about 30 kilometres from Chalsa and Lataguri in northern West Bengal, India. The Jeep turned to left and we were at the entry gate of the Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary. Though the forest is relatively small, it hosts a variety of flora and fauna. The forest is famous for its elephant population. Once can also visit the beautiful tea gardens of Jiti and Hila above Nagrakata here.

 

Murti Forest: Our hired car was ready there to take us to the resort of the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation at Murti. Murti village is placed at a stone throw from Capramari forest and Gorumara National Park; hence travelers can easily visit Capramari Forest and Gorumara National Park by hiring jeep. Murti itself has a lot to offer for nature lovers. Elephants are also known to frequent around here.

 

How to Reach North Bengal Jungles…..

 

By Rail: The most important railway Junction is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and is situated 10 kilometers away from Siliguri.

 

By Air: Bagdogra airport is the nearest and major airport. Various parts of Dooars are approximately 3 – 4 hours’ drive from Bagdogra Airport.

 

By Road: Jaldapara is connected by National Highway Number 31 with Siliguri which is 140 kilometers away, Chapramari is 80 kilometers, Buxar is nearly 200 kilometers, Bindu and Jhalong is 105 kilometers and can be reached by car within 2 – 4 hours. Jaldapara / Hollong / Buxa Tiger Reserve are all very close to the National Highway number 31. There are two approach roads one is National Highway number 31 and the other is through Jalpaiguri which is bit longer from Siliguri.

Latpanchar is located at an altitude of 5000 ft above sea level on the hilly region of the Mahananda Wild Life Sanctuary. Latpanchar is a mesmerizing natural beauty covered with forests and cinchona plantations. Travelers will be relaxed with the greenery all around. The village is known for its proximity to the core area of the Mahananda WLS.

The main attraction here is 360 degree view of Kurseong, Tiger Hill, Sikkim and Siliguri from “Ahal” hill top.
