Welcome to Pedong, The latest destination in the evergreen and mystical hills of the North East. If you are looking for something new, something different, something authentic then this is the place to be. This is a place with a very beautiful blend of History, culture and nature wherein a traveler can have a true genuine experience.

Pedong is a small town in Darjeeling district of West Bengal. It lies 20 kms east of Kalimpong on the way to Lava at an altitude of 1240 mts. Pedong is one of the oldest towns in the region which has a significant historical importance. Pedong lies on the histirical SILK ROUTE which was used for trade between INDIA and TIBET via the Jelepla pass. Pedong, located on a ridge provides a panoramic view of the Himalayan mountains including KANCHANJUNGA.

Places of interest

Tinchuley Hill:

A lone majestic hill, standing tall amongst others is the Tinchuley hill. It offers one of the best 360 degree views in Pedong but also demands a stiff uphill hike for about 30 minutes to reach the hilltop. And when on top, it is you who suddenly feels majestic, surrounded by the thick pine forests below you and the Himalayan range in front of you. But always do keep the weather in mind. It sometimes plays a spoilsport.

Ramitey:

This is what we would like to call the pride of Pedong. The Ramitey view point is accessible by vehicle or by a 3 km trek from Sillery Gaon. The view point is one of the vantage locations to view both the Kanchendzonga above and the Teesta River below.

This view point is also unique as it offers the longest view of the Teesta meandering through the valley with its 14 bends, a rare sight to behold. A bird’s eye view of the entire region is visible from this point right from Teesta Bazar to Majhitar on a clear day.

Damsang Gadi:

Damsang Gadi, a historical fort built in 1690 by the Lepchas. It was at the centre of the long-standing feud with the Dukpas of Bhutan. Later, it was used to ward off the forces of the British East India Company. After the Anglo-Bhutan War of 1864, the fort fell into decay.

Cross Hill:

Cross Hill, placed by priest Auguste Desgodins in 1882 on his way to Tibet. It is considered to have miraculous powers and is a pilgrimage site for the local Christians.

Sangchen Dorjee Monastery:

This is the one of the oldest monasteries in Pedong and its surrounding areas. Established in and around the early 1700AD it provides tremendous historical insight into the history and culture of this place. The Sangchen Dorjee Gumba also has some amazing fresco paintings on the inner walls of the main chamber depicting Tantric Buddhism. The Chyaam dance or the Buddhist Mask dance is also held here every year.

Haa Valley :

Haa is also known as ‘’the Hidden-Land Rice Valley.’’ Haa’s major feature is its narrow north –south valley. Its new Dzong was built in 1915, near the older one which was destroyed by fire. You can also take 12km long trek to Rupam Valley in Bhutan through a route that’s much more beautiful than words can describe.

However, another must trekking option on your trip to Buxa is the trek from Buxaduar to Jayanti. This 13-km route takes you through some of the most mysterious as well as the densest parts of the reserve and the eventful trek ended with the warm embrace of an old priest at the unparalleled stalactite cave called Jayanti. The music of wilderness, the chirping of unknown birds, the song of wild streams, the fragrance of nature will never allow you to feel the least stress of a long journey.

The journey ends with a warm reception of an old staggering priest at the stalactite cave of jayanti, popularly known as the Mahakal cave. It is difficult to enter into the narrow, dark, damp cave but trying the same may be another precious adventure.

Excited to go there. Contact us now we will arrange a to z for your trek.
